On October 10, 2009, Lansdowne returned to its winning ways with a comprehensive away victory versus Montclair by a score of 26-3.
In an uncharacteristically good start, Lansdowne exerted pressure from the opening whistle and earned the first try of the day through fullback Nathan Board, who went over in the corner following some strong scrummaging- as well as some swift and accurate hands in the backline. Montclair began to edge back into the game as time progressed but their efforts were met up with a committed Lansdowne defense with strong tackling by Anthony Priest, Owen Mayers and Austin Purcell amongst others. An up and under by Jonny Coghlan was gathered by center Jason Kelly, who galloped half the length of the pitch to extend Lansdowne's lead. Monclair managed to slot a penalty, and the first half concluded with Lansdowne leading by a score of 12-3.
In the second half, Lansdowne played with the considerable wind and managed to use it to full advantage. A thunderous kick from outhalf Jonny Coghlan seemed to travel three quarters of the length of the pitch to find touch within yards of the Montclair in-goal, and set the stage for Lansdowne's third try. The ball once again found its way through several sets of hands to winger John Farrell, who powered over the line for a try in the corner. The Lansdowne scrum and lineout continued to impress and effectively shut down Montclair's efforts to get back into the game. The final try of the match was scored by Man of the Match Jason Kelly, following a long distance kick and chase.
The "B" match saw a valiant Lansdowne comeback thwarted as they went down by 18-10. Duly impressive were Man of the Match Dan Tress, Shane Rafferty, Brendan Garrone and Kevin Poplaski.
